About Us
Our Mission
To supply our community with uniquely nutritious mushrooms that are cultivated within a system that produces delicious food, supports new mushrooms farmers, and restores damaged forests.
Our Woodland Farm
There are many ways to grow mushrooms. Our small farm is in Mendham, NJ, a community 30 miles west from NYC that is dedicated to preserving its large wooded lots and small local farms. Our farm has been using woodland farm techniques for 12 years, raising free-range chickens in the woods, bees, chestnuts and partial shade crops like blackberries, fiddlehead ferns and nettle. We use only two acres of open pasture to grow vegetables. The rest is all deciduous Hardwood forest. Three years ago we started matching our many mature hardwood trees to types of micorrhizal mushrooms like Morels, Penny buns and Chanterelles and making wood chip beds around the older trees. It worked quickly! We have great soil with many of the right bacteria, lots of shade and a history of no fertilizers or pesticides. We are now growing many varieties of mushrooms in beds, on stacks of inoculated logs and logs buried in the woods.
